West Chicago classroom turned into food pantry
ABC7 visited a classroom in West Chicago that has been turned into a food pantry for the entire school district.

WEST CHICAGO, Ill. (WLS) -- The holidays are traditionally the season of giving, and now, there's a call to pitch in and help feed the needy.

This week, ABC7 is teaming up with the Greater Chicago Food Depository and the Northern Illinois Food Bank for the "Spirit of Giving: Helping Fight Hunger" campaign.

In West Chicago, a classroom has been turned into a food pantry, called the Getting Together with Kids in School Food Pantry. The Northern Illinois Food Bank and the United Way partnered with the School District 33 to open the food pantry last month.

Every Tuesday, the pantry is open to everyone in the school district for families who need extra help with groceries. So far, they serve about 100 families each week.
