ELWOOD, Ill. (WLS) -- A lot of people in the Chicago area are getting a chance to see the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree without ever going to Washington.

A truck is taking the 88-foot-tall white spruce from Minnesota where it was chopped down to the capitol. It's stopping in 30 communities, including Wednesday night's visit in the Will County village of Elwood.

The village turned its lights on and children got the entire Christmas experience, including a chance to talk with Santa to get their wish list in early.
