CHICAGO (WLS) -- ABC 7 CHICAGO will highlight the rich culture and traditions of Chicago's Latino community during Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15-October 15. ABC 7 will celebrate Hispanic heritage with special news reports; the broadcast of the Little Village Chamber of Commerce 26th Street Mexican Independence Day Parade; a half-hour edition of THE N BEAT; and a series of vignettes featuring ABC 7's Michelle Gallardo, John Garcia, Theresa Gutierrez and Roz Varon.

To kick off Hispanic Heritage Month, all the pageantry of Mexican culture was on display when ABC 7's Theresa Gutierrez hosted the Little Village Chamber of Commerce 26th Street Mexican Independence Day Parade on Sunday, September 14. ABC 7 Chicago was the only TV station in town to broadcast the parade. Participating in this colorful community event were members of the ABC 7 News team including Stacey Baca, Steve Dolinsky, Michelle Gallardo, John Garcia, Jason Knowles and Roz Varon who rode atop the ABC 7 float. Marco Antonio Regil, was chosen as this year's parade Grand Marshall because of his support of the immigration issue. Throughout September and October, ABC 7 will celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with vignettes spotlighting some of the influential and talented people featured in the October edition of THE N BEAT.

ABC 7 will broadcast its Emmy Award-winning program, THE N BEAT, hosted by Theresa Gutierrez, with special contributions by ABC 7's Stacey Baca, Michelle Gallardo, John Garcia, and Roz Varon, Saturday, October 4 at 6:30 pm, with an encore presentation on Sunday, October 12, at 2:00 pm.

On this Hispanic Heritage Month edition of THE N BEAT, the show profiles Puerto Rican born comedian Elizardi "Eli" Castro, who made a name for himself in Chicago with his one-man comedy shows. He will bring his sixth, one-man show "The Wrong Place at the Right Time" back to Chicago this fall. THE N BEAT lets viewers in on the laughs during a reprise of Castro's first show at Joe's on Weed Street in Chicago - where he plays to a sold out audience. In addition to his successful comedy career, Castro is a practicing criminal defense attorney and takes time to work with up and coming Latino comedic talent in Chicago.

THE N BEAT looks at Mujeres Latinas en Accion, an organization that empowers Latinas and helps advocate for them on issues that affects their lives. The show explores the entrepreneurial program that this organization offers that assists women interested in starting their own business.

Chicago native George Burciaga founded Elevate DIGITAL, a digital company that introduces the integration of city services and new technology. THE N BEAT looks at what makes Burciaga such a leader in his field with multiple national awards and recognition from the White House among his many honors.

The N Beat and the Little Village Chamber of Commerce 26th Street Mexican Independence Day Parade will be available on-demand at www.abc7chicago.com. Edgar Vargas is the producer of the parade. Rubye Wilson and Holly Grisham are the producers of THE N BEAT.
