Cary teenager records song for Special Olympics World Games
CARY, Ill. (WLS) -- The 2015 Special Olympics World Games are being held in Los Angeles beginning on Saturday, July 25.
The Special Olympics are the world's largest sports and humanitarian event. Nearly 7,000 athletes and 3,000 coaches from 170 countries are taking part in this year's games. Royalty, heads of state and fans will cheer on the athletes inside the Coliseum. You can watch the Opening Ceremonies at 8 p.m. CST on ESPN.
In support of all the Special Olympics athletes, The Coca-Cola Company worked with rock band O.A.R. and singer Cody Simpson to record a unified song in honor of the event, titled "Reach Up." The song also features vocals by Cary, Ill. 17-year-old Breanna Bogucki. She was diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder and OCD at the age of 5. Despite the disabilities, Breanna is a decorated Special Olympics athlete in four sports: volleyball, basketball, softball and gymnastics.
She stopped by ABC7 to talk about her role in the song "Rise Up" and what the Special Olympics means to her.
