CHICAGO (WLS) -- It felt like spring at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Chicago on Friday for the Cubs Convention, an event that drew hundreds fans from all over the country.

"Cub fans are the best in the world, so it's a lot of fun, a lot of camaraderie, and just everyone's willing to talk and chat with you," said Connie Feigl, a Cubs fan.

"When it's 20 degrees out, and you can talk baseball and hang out with baseball people, it's a lot of fun," said Matthew Stannis, another fan.

Fans were snapping up merchandise and meeting Cubs greats, including Andre Dawson, Bill Buckner and Lee Smith.

"For me, it's just getting back to see Andre and Bobby D and all the guys, but all the fans, they remember your career better than you," said Smith.

For Dori Levin, the convention was a full circle moment. She brought a photograph from almost 30 years ago of her and Dawson from when he was with the Marlins, to get it autographed.

"It'll be framed," said Levin.

Though last year's thrilling playoff run ultimately ended in disappointment, there was a quiet confidence at the convention.

In just a few short seasons, fans have gone from dreaming of a World Series, to almost expecting it.

"Definitely a lot of optimism and everything because last year we came so close. We really came close, so no the expectation is that we're going to win it all every year. I mean, what a change, right?" said Cubs fanGina Crittenden.
