ANAHEIM, Calif. (WLS) -- The Chicago Cubs are gearing up for their season opener Monday night against the Los Angeles Angels.

On Sunday, all eyes were on their final exhibition game where hundreds of fans along the first baseline at Angels Stadium watched their team in perfect weather.

"I'm excited. I love (Joe) Maddon," said fan Trino Gomez. "I love what he's doing. I love his chemistry and what he's doing with these kids playing together."

Cubs fans always travel well, but many of the fans in Anaheim aren't even from Chicago.

"It's something we can do together and enjoy together, so that's nice," said daughter Breonna Doyle.

Doyle's father, Steve Caulk, lives in California, but is a life-long Cubs fan

"Many, many years ago when I was a kid, I was watching the game and the other team hit a home run and the fan threw it back on the field, I remember watching that and I'd never seen that before and I was like that's a team I'm following right there," Caulk said.

Lots of Cubbie blue was waiting to get in to Sunday's last exhibition game.

The Graves family drove for hours, coming from northern California to root on their favorite team.

"It looks like we have quite a few, I think we can compete with the Angels fans," said Leif Graves, a California Cubs fan, who called his cat Rizzo.

"(Monday), I can't wait until Arrieta pitches," said Shawn Graves, a California Cubs fan.

The same goes for just about every Cubs fan out there.

Cubs lost their Sunday exhibition game, but they still start the season 0-0.
