CHICAGO (WLS) -- Join former Chicago Cub Kerry Wood at the first annual Battle of the Bats Home Run Derby at Wrigley Field.
The derby is scheduled for Thursday, June 18. Proceeds will benefit the Wood Family Foundation and Cubs Charities, which help support Chicago kids.
Here's how the derby will work:
Round One: 40 contestants (10 teams), each player has 10 outs; Top 10 individuals with the most homeruns move forward.
Round Two: Each of the 10 remaining players has eight outs. Top three players advance to Championship round.
Championship Round: Kerry Wood will pitch and the top three individual contestants have five outs per at bat. Winner is crowned the Battle of the Bats Champion.
First Place Team Fundraiser: DINNER WITH KERRY WOOD
Your team will have dinner with Kerry on a mutually agreed upon date. The team of six (6) will have dinner at local area restaurant with Kerry and break bread and swap stories from the day.
The top four individual fundraisers will receive prizes as well.
All participants will receive:
Battle of the Bats Uniform (hat, jersey and pants)
Batting practice with Kerry Wood and friends
Fielding tips with Cubs alumni
Food and beverages during the event
Name on the new Wrigley Field video board
Tickets to the post-event party for participants and a guest
Spectator tickets for participants
Baseball signed by Kerry Wood and friends with commemorative case
