Suspect who escaped police custody in Elmhurst caught

ELMHURST, Ill. (WLS) -- Elmhurst police apprehended a suspect who escaped from officers Wednesday evening after he had been handcuffed.

Police searched the area of East North Avenue and North Larch Avenue Wednesday night, but said shortly before 10 p.m. they believed the suspect was no longer in that area.

Officers had originally arrested the man for retail theft.

He is now facing additional charges.
