Byrne Interchange closures begin
Overnight Tuesday, drivers will lose their ability to get on the Dan Ryan from both Roosevelt Road and Taylor Street.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Ramp and lane closures on the Jane Byrne Interchange, formerly the Circle Interchange, are scheduled to take effect Tuesday night as renovation work continues.

Crews are building a new flyover ramp to connect the inbound Dan Ryan Expressway (I-90/94) to the outbound Eisenhower Expressway (I-290).

Beginning at 10 p.m. Tuesday night, drivers will lose their ability to get on the Dan Ryan from both Roosevelt Road and Taylor Street. But that will look like a minor bump in the road compared with what's to come Friday.

"We are telling motorists to start early, plan ahead, maybe carpool or take public transit; but it is going to take longer to go through the interchange," IDOT spokesperson Carson Quinn said.

On Friday, the ramp from the inbound Dan Ryan to eastbound Congress Parkway will close, and so will the right lane on Dan Ryan bridge. The Stevenson ramps to inbound Dan Ryan will be reduced to one lane in each direction.

You'll still be able to go from the inbound Dan Ryan to the outbound Eisenhower, but you'll be driving on a temporary roadway.
