Car slams into River Grove apartment building

RIVER GROVE, Ill. (WLS) -- DUI charges are pending against a 21-year-old driver who allegedly lost control of his vehicle and crashed into an apartment building River Grove overnight, police said.

The Toyota Camry slammed into a ground-level unit of the six-flat located in the 8600-block of Grand Avenue around 2 a.m. Monday. The person living in the unit was home at the time of the crash, but not injured.

Firefighters evacuated the entire building after the crash. Residents will be allowed back inside once inspectors deem it safe to return.

The driver was taken to Loyola University Medical Center. His condition was not immediately available.

No other injuries were reported.
