Crash splits car in half on SB I-355 near North Avenue

LOMBARD, Ill. (WLS) -- One person was seriously hurt in a crash on southbound I-355 just south of North Avenue in west suburban Lombard overnight.

Illinois State Police said a car rear-ended a semi just after 2:20 a.m. Wednesday and rolled into a grassy area just off the right shoulder.

The car split in two, and the driver was trapped. The driver suffered a head injury but was conscious and alert when first responders arrived.

The driver was pulled from the car and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in serious condition.

The center and right lanes of southbound I-355 were blocked for the crash investigation.
