LAKE STATION, Ind. (WLS) -- An Indiana trooper was transported by helicopter after a crash involving his SUV on the Borman Expressway (I-80/94) at Ripley in Lake Station. Trooper Jacob Raupp, 26, was seriously injured when "he failed to slow for another vehicle in the center lane," according to an Indiana State Police news release.

Raupp was driving westbound on I-80 near the 15.7 mile marker when his police SUV struck the rear of a semi that was pulling an empty flatbed trailer. The crash happened in the center lane, police said.

Trooper Raupp had to be extricated from his SUV and was airlifted to Christ Advocate Hospital in Oak Lawn, Ill. His injuries have not been released.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

All lanes of the Borman Expressway were closed briefly following the crash at 11 a.m. The eastbound lanes reopened a short time later, and the right lane of the westbound lanes was opened at 11:30 a.m.
