Kennedy lanes re-open after construction
Outbound Kennedy lanes have re-opened ahead of schedule after weekend construction.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The outbound lanes of I-90/94 between Grand and Ogden reopened ahead of schedule Sunday after the second part of a construction project on the Ontario Street Bridge, and Monday morning's rush hour should not be affected.

This was the final part of the Kennedy Expressway construction project to demolish the Ontario Street Bridge. It was expected to have more impact on traffic than Part 1, which was last weekend. Detour routes were created for commuters, though some considered them confusing.

"We were coming up to it and I was like, 'Shoot!' I saw that it had been closed but I just didn't remember when it was going to be closed, so it was a little confusing and frustrating," said Katie Johnson, motorist.

IDOT officials expected the closures to be in place until 5 a.m. Monday, as officials considered this weekend's construction phase more complicated. Last weekend, contractors finished the project early.

The inbound Ohio Street ramp remained closed, though residual closures reopened later Sunday afternoon.
