CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago taxi drivers could earn more money under new reforms proposed by Mayor Rahm Emanuel.

The mayor and the group "Cab Drivers United" announced the taxi driver fairness reforms of 2014.

They include an ordinance that they say will boost driver income by reducing lease caps for alternative fuel vehicles in their second model year or older, implement a universal taxi smartphone app and reduce fines for driver violations.

The Illinois Transportation Trade Association says the reforms don't address what it calls an unlevel playing field with ridesharing companies.
