Wabash Avenue closed Thursday between Madison and Monroe streets for ten weeks to allow for work to continue on a new CTA station.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Wabash Avenue closed Thursday between Madison and Monroe streets to allow for work on a new CTA station. The closure is expected to last ten weeks.

The Chicago Department of Transportation said the shutdown is necessary for work to continue on the new stop above Wabash.

The closure began at 6:30 a.m. Thursday. Wabash was originally scheduled to close Monday morning, but CDOT said other work had to be finished first.

Westbound traffic on Madison will continue while that section of Wabash is closed, officials said.

All businesses and restaurants on Wabash between Madison and Monroe will be accessible and ADA, valet and loading zones will be provided, CDOT said.
