CHICAGO (WLS) -- A government watchdog says Chicago is among a group of American cities with an urgent shortage of air traffic controllers.

An inspector general for the Department of Transportation says 13 of the nation's busiest airports are below minimum staffing requirements, which are set by the FAA.

The inspector general did not release a list of specific airports, but cited airports in New York, Dallas, Denver and Chicago as among those with the staffing shortage.
