Kentucky police are investigating after surveillance video showed a man break into a funeral home on Wednesday.

The video shows a man wander around the funeral home for three hours, steal the keys to the hearse, and then finally steal and put on clothing that's meant for a man who passed away and was supposed to be buried Wednesday.

Ray Daugherty, 81, was laid to rest Wednesday, but not before falling victim to a posthumous crime.

"While he was in there, he took a green sports jacket, khaki pants, and jewelry that were meant to be used in a funeral for a subject who was at the funeral home waiting to be prepared," said Detective Kevin Smith with the Leitchfield Police Department.

Video shows the suspect getting naked and then changing into Daugherty's clothing, even smelling his underwear before putting it on.

"None of this was taken off of the deceased person's person," Smith said.

Staff at Watson and Hunt Funeral Home told WAVE-TV the man spent more than three hours inside, napping, drinking soda, stealing candy, the keys to the hearse, electronics, tea lights and finally Daugherty's clothing. Police have an idea of who the suspect is and he is possibly connected to a Walmart robbery that happened earlier Wednesday.

Police have a message for the suspect.

"If you have some type of issue that you're going through that you got so desperate that you had to do something like this, we will help you in any way we can. However, we do have a job to do, but that does not mean that we can't help you," said
At the funeral, Daugherty's daughter Rebecca Miller said her father would want the family to forgive the suspect.

"He would say, I hope he gets his justice, but I hope he gets right with God and doesn't ever do this to anybody else. Never, ever, ever," Miller said.

The funeral director said he has gotten some tips and messages about who the man might be. The Leitchfield Police Department is investigating.
