Chicago Weather: Beach warnings in place on hot, humid day

CHICAGO (WLS) -- It's hot, hot, hot! And in Chicago, Monday or not, that means it's time to go to the beach.

But, there are a number of warnings for beach-goers. A swim ban is in place at Fargo Beach on Chicago's North Side because of hazardous surf. There are also swim advisories at Humboldt Beach and Calumet Beach.

"Honestly, I love it. Anytime it's too hot, I run in the water. Everyone else is being babies, say they don't want to go in, but we go in," Caroline Kraft said.

"I come out and sell ice-cream sometimes, but today I get to hang with my friends for once, I'm off. It's a pretty nice day," DeShawn Bloom said.

Pools across the area are also packed. At Oak Park's Ridgeland Commons, kids already off for the summer splashed away joyfully. Some of the parents, though, were happy to hide under some shade.

"I've had enough already and it's not even noon yet," Cheryl Holtz said.

"We went out for a bike ride this morning. We were sweating to death and said let's get in the pool," Eric Santos said.

For most, however, it is a work day. Downtown, the lunch crowd along the Riverwalk was also in search of some respite from the sun and maybe a little bit of a breeze.

"Wearing this is not as enjoyable as it would be wearing shorts and a t-shirt, so we were just over there and had to move into the shade," Yousef Haq said.

With temperatures in the 90s for the third day in a row, it is unusually hot for this time of year.

Warnings going out around the area reminding parents and caregivers to not leave children or pets unattended inside motor vehicles. And for those working in the elements, to stay hydrated and take regular breaks.
