CHICAGO (WLS) -- Morning showers and thunderstorms have caused residual delays and flight cancellations at Chicago-area airports.

Airlines at O'Hare Airport are experiencing delays of 45 minutes and have cancelled 100 flights, officials said. Airlines at Midway Airport are experiencing 20 minute or more delays but have not reported any cancellations.

Torrential downpours and small hail were reported in the northern suburbs of Chicago Thursday morning, as the storms moved southeast toward the city.

High temperatures are expected to reach the low 90s in some areas as clouds diminish in the afternoon. The weather service predicts heat index maximums to near 100 degrees, making for a very hot and humid Thursday.

More storms are on the way Friday, with high temperatures expected to range from the upper 70s to mid-80s. The weather service expects cooler temperatures and lower humidity for the weekend.
