Temperatures hit the 70s on Monday, but a plunge is on its way.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Susan Schmidt couldn't be happier. She's playing beach volleyball in October. In Chicago.

"This is a gift. This really makes me happy. We've been singing, 'happy, happy, joy, joy," she said.

Schmidt isn't the only person smiling about the weather. Unusually warm for the end of October, temperatures will hit the high-70s on Monday.

Al Thompson put his sailboat away last week, but got his jet ski out for another turn on Lake Michigan.

"I've had my money's worth out of it this year," Thompson said. "I'm a sailor and I have sailboat, so this makes it the best of both worlds. To have a sailboat and go slow and a jet ski and go fast."

Kelly Walker was out fishing in the harbor.

"I could deal with this for another month or two," Walker said.

But unfortunately, that's not going to be the case. Temperatures fall back into the 60s Tuesday and will be near freezing by Friday.

"A big temperature swing," ABC7 Meteorologist Mike Caplan. "But today, it's all good."

On Friday, trick-or-treaters should bundle up! The highs on Halloween will be mid-30s near Lake Michigan and cooler inland.
