CHICAGO (WLS) -- Although the Chicago area has seen a fairly mild week, temperatures are expected to fall rapidly overnight Friday into Saturday.

WATCH: ABC 7 First Alert Weather Forecast

ABC7 Meteorologist Phil Schwarz says temperatures will fall more than 20 degrees by Friday evening, with wind chills near freezing. Temperatures overnight in outlying areas could reach 23 degrees and dip to 32 degrees in the city. Areas by the lake will be especially cold.

Although the drop is sudden, temperatures are expected to climb back up into the 60s by Sunday with mostly sunny skies.
