FOREST PARK, Ill. (WLS) -- A 19-year-old woman has been charged after police said she stole a woman's SUV from an Elmhurst driveway and later crashed it into a Forest Park apartment on Wednesday, police said.

Jamesha McChristine, 19, of Chicago, was in a car with seven other people in the 200-block of Grantley Avenue at about 3:15 p.m. when she saw the victim exit her SUV and leave it running in a driveway, police said.

McChristine got out and entered the victim's SUV through a door that hadn't been fully closed. Police said she then drove away and the seven people in the other car also fled.

The victim said she saw McChristine steal her car and immediately contacted Elmhurst police. McChristine hit two parked cars and a fence and some landscaping in Elmhurst, police said.

McChristine eventually crashed into a Forest Park apartment building and was apprehended by police after a short foot chase. The woman who lives in the apartment was home at the time of the crash and was not injured.

McChristine has been charged with unlawful possession of a stolen motor vehicle, two counts of criminal damage to property and one count of criminal damage to government supported property. In bond court Thursday morning, a DuPage County judge set bond at $50,000.

The seven people McChristine was with were arrested and charged with misdemeanors.
