1 killed, 3 injured in Merrillville crash

One person was killed and three others injured in a crash in Merrillville, Ind. Sunday morning, police said.

Police responded to the 3000-block of West 73rd Avenue near Independence Park at about 3:15 a.m. after a Lexus SUV crashes. The SUV appeared to leave the roadway and strike a tree before it became engulfed in flames, police said.

A female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. A male driver and two male passengers were hospitalized, two with life-threatening injuries.

Authorities have not released the identity of the person killed.
