Travelers heading home after Thanksgiving holiday weekend

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Millions of people around the country and in Chicago are on the move Sunday, heading home in droves after a long holiday weekend. People are traveling by air, road and by rail.

About 9,000 of those travelers will be moving through Chicago's Unions Station on Amtrak, many of them on 16-hour trips or longer.

Amazingly, only one train has been delayed Sunday, according to Amtrak spokesperson Marc Magliari.

"The Sunday after Thanksgiving is the busiest single day of the whole period," he said.

On the highway, drivers are thankful this Thanksgiving for the dipping gas prices. The weather also cooperated and clear skies meant clear roads with shorter driving times.

"It was amazing," said Kelly Cuptz. "We paid $40, came back and it was only $20. We got $20 back and to see below $2 is really great."

At O'Hare International Airport, passengers said they were anticipating long lines and increased security in the wake of the recent terrorist attacks, so they planned ahead.

"Wednesday wasn't bad, (Sunday) is crazy," said Marilyn Argabright. "We came two hours early."
