North Branch Trail extension will add 3 miles

An expansion is underway for the North Branch Trail on the city's Northwest Side. The popular bike and running path will get 3 more miles.

The North Branch currently starts at Caldwell and Devon. The new miles will be logged on the southern side. During the first construction phase, the trail will be extended 1.8 miles to North Forest Glen Avenue. The second phase will take it to Gompers Park.

The North Branch Trail connects Chicago to other scenic trails within the Forest Preserves of Cook County. County officials broke ground on the project Monday.
