CHICAGO (WLS) -- Waiting until the last minute is paying off for some shoppers Thursday night, and one survey saying that the discounts this holiday season are lower than last year.

There was a packed parking lot and heavy foot traffic inside Woodfield Mall Thursday night in Schaumburg, as procrastinators are making last minute deals in the suburbs and city.

"They had half off of Tommy sweaters it was a really good deal, plus 15 (percent) off when you use your Macy's charge," said shopper Brittini Harper.

Adelle's latest CD at Walgreen's on State and Randolph, was reduced and there are plenty of other gift ideas under $20.

While many stores will close early Thursday evening, managers at Walgreen's say they will be working late with Santa.

According to "Market Track," price cuts on items like clothing and jewelry are better than last year. Michael Montagano scooped up a stack of gifts at 70 percent off at Old Navy.

"A lot better than Black Friday, positively," he said.
