I-55 bridge repair work backs up traffic during PM rush

BOLINGBROOK, Ill. (WLS) -- Traffic was backed up for several miles Wednesday afternoon as crews worked to repair a hole in the outbound lanes of Interstate 55 near Bolingbrook.

IDOT closed at least one outbound lane of I-55 to repair a full-depth hole in the bridge over Route 53. The right lanes of southbound Illinois 53, below the bridge, are also closed.

Motorists should expect delays in the area. The repairs are expected to be completed before Thursday morning, IDOT said.
