Woman fatally struck by Ford Mustang in Volo

VOLO, Ill. (WLS) -- A woman was struck and killed by a car on Route 12 in north suburban Volo overnight.

Lake County sheriff's deputies responded to a crash on Route 12 south of Route 120 just before 2:40 a.m. Thursday. When they arrived, they found a woman dead on the pavement.

Investigators said a 2008 Ford Mustang heading south on Route 12 hit the woman. It is unclear why she was on the road.

The woman's identity has not been released. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning.

The Lake County Sheriff's Technical Crash Investigations Unit is investigating the crash.
