Boy, 14, shot and killed in Riverdale

RIVERDALE, Ill. (WLS) -- A 14-year-old boy was fatally shot in south suburban Riverdale.

Police received multiple phone calls around 7:30 p.m. Sunday reporting shots fired in the 14300-block of South Dearborn Street. One caller said a male victim was lying in the road and had been shot in the head, according to police.

Officers found Rashad Oliver, 14, lying in the street. Oliver was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he later died.

The 14-year-old victim was a junior high school student in District 148. The superintendent said extra staff would be made available to help students deal with news of their classmate's death.

Riverdale police and the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force are conducting a homicide investigation.
