Homemade bomb found in ditch in Indiana

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. (WLS) -- Deputies in La Porte County, Indiana, are trying to figure out who left a homemade bomb in a ditch.

It was found this afternoon just off of Welnetz Road in Trail Creek. A resident was cleaning litter from along a ditch when she found what she believed to be a homemade firework.

First responders found two mason jars fitted with fuses and determined that it was an IED. They evacuated the immediate area and called a bomb squad in to detonate those devices.

The bomb squad transported it to a nearby field where it was safely detonated.
