Woman attacked with machete-like instrument in Logan Square

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago police have issued an alert after a man attacked a woman with what appeared to be a machete in Logan Square Sunday morning.

The attack happened near North Avenue and Springfield at approximately 2:45 a.m.

Police said the attacker used the machete-type instrument to cut the victim several times on her head and body, leaving her seriously injured.

The suspect is described by police as a white/Hispanic man in his late 30s to early 50s, 5'08"-6'00" with a medium build, black hair and a mustache, police said. He was dressed in a white-colored T-shirt and black and white colored shorts.

Police have not made any arrests.
