London police: 1 dead, 5 injured in possible terrorist knife attack

LONDON (WLS) -- Metropolitan Police in London say one woman was killed and five others were injured in a knife attack in the city's Russell Square neighborhood.

Police said around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday officers responded to reports of a man with a knife injuring people. A woman was treated at the scene but pronounced dead shortly thereafter. Five further victims were taken to local hospitals for treatment. Details on their ages, genders and conditions have not been released.

Police said a man was arrested shortly after police arrived. Additional officers have been deployed to the area as a precaution.

Metropolitan police say the man's motives are currently unknown, but terrorism is considered a possibility at this stage of the investigation.
