CHICAGO (WLS) -- A Chicago man said he believes he was attacked by a group of teenagers in Chicago's Logan Square neighborhood because he is gay.

Levi Frerichs said he was walking in Logan Square last week in the 2700-block of North Spaulding when three boys and two girls came up from behind and started punching him.

Surveillance cameras captured his escape as he ran and was chased around 2 a.m.

"It's a senseless crime that was done by teenagers who have nothing else better to do," he said.

Police are investigating the attacks as a hate crime. Frerichs said he believes the same group is responsible for two other attacks in the area including one on in the 606 Trail.
