Waukegan gas station clerk pepper-sprayed during armed robbery

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (WLS) -- A clerk at a north suburban Waukegan gas station was pepper-sprayed during an armed robbery Wednesday night, Waukegan police said.

The armed robbery took place at the Shell Gas Station at 2720 Washington Street in Waukegan at 9 p.m., police said. Two men wearing masks and armed with handguns entered the gas station and demanded money from the clerk.

During the robbery, the clerk was pepper-sprayed by one of the robbers but was not seriously injured, police said.

Both suspects fled on foot. Police did not disclose the amount taken in the robbery.

One suspect is described by police as about 5'8" and skinny and the other as about 6'00" and heavy.
