CHICAGO (WLS) -- A shelter for homeless women and children is getting a makeover on Chicago's South Side.

Operators of Clara's House revealed the improvements Thursday. Local police and community members got together to do the work.

The shelter has provided a safe home to mothers and their children since 1987.

Clara's House is named after Clara Kirk, a school bus driver who moved to Englewood back in 1974. The shelter is run by the West Englewood United Organization.
