CHICAGO (WLS) -- In this week's Traffic Troubleshooter, ABC7 Eyewitness News answers viewers' questions about the gantries over the Jane Addams Tollway.

Many people wondered if they were toll readers. Illinois Tollway officials said they are not.

The overhead structures will be part of the I-90 SmartRoad system. They will be positioned over I-90 every half mile between Barrington Road and the Kennedy Expressway, officials said.

The gantries will show drivers which lanes are blocked ahead with a red "X" in the box above the lane, officials said. A large overhead sign will alert drivers to accidents or other incidents ahead of them.

All 29 gantries are expected to be installed by November. The entire I-90 SmartRoad is expected to go live next spring.
