CHICAGO (WLS) -- A teacher at Urban Prep Academy's West Campus has been charged with having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

June Kendall, 29, was charged with two felony counts of criminal sexual assault of a victim of the ages 13-17, police said Saturday. Police said Kendall and the victim, a student, engaged in inappropriate acts on schools grounds on more than one occasion.

She was placed on administrative leave from all school-related responsibilities, according to officials at the school.

School officials issued a statement after Kendall was arrested saying, "Our number one priority is, and always will be, the welfare, safety and education of our students." The statement also said Urban Prep hired an independent investigator to conduct an internal investigation into the issue."

Kendall is due in court again Tuesday.
