VIDEO: Car fire on Interstate 94

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A driver escaped from his burning vehicle unharmed Sunday evening as it went up in flames along Interstate 94, Illinois State Police said.

The vehicle was in the southbound lane near Root Street, just south of West Pershing Road on Chicago's South Side, when the incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m.

A passing motorist shot a video with his smartphone.

State police were investigating the cause of the fire.
