ABC 7 Chicago wins six Chicago Emmy Awards

ABC 7 Chicago garnered six Chicago Emmys during the 2015/16 Chicago/Midwest Regional Emmy Awards ceremony, held Saturday, December 3 in Chicago. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Chicago/Midwest Chapter, honors excellence in the television industry annually.

ABC 7 Eyewitness News, the ratings and key demo winner in the November 2016 sweep, captured two top news category honors in the competition, winning for "Outstanding Achievement for News Programming - Evening Newscast," (the November 24, 2015 10pm newscast honored was the day ABC 7covered of the release of the LaQuan McDonald video) "Spot News" category with coverage of the story, "GI Joe Found Dead." And, in the category "Outstanding Crafts Achievement for On-Camera Talent Traffic/Transportation," ABC 7's Roz Varon was the winner.

In the programming categories, ABC 7 captured three Emmys for the station's outstanding achievement in local programming: ABC 7's Windy City LIVE, the station's popular talk and entertainment show, won in the interview/discussion program category marking the show's fourth Emmy Award; HEART and SOUL, a program that showcases Chicago's vibrant African American community, won its third Emmy Award in the public affairs/current affairs programming category. In its second year of broadcasting the Chicago Auto Show, ABC 7 CHICAGO PRESENTS: THE CHICAGO AUTO SHOW, a live, hour-long broadcast, won in the category, "Outstanding Achievement for Special Events Coverage."
