For more than 200 kids Christmas arrived Wednesday night as the Kane County Sheriff's Fraternal Order of Police took children to a Wal-Mart in Batavia for some holiday shopping.

BATAVIA, Ill. (WLS) -- Call it 'shop with a cop.' For more than 200 kids Christmas arrived Wednesday night as the Kane County Sheriff's Fraternal Order of Police took children to a Wal-Mart in Batavia for some holiday shopping. The children, as well as some adults with disabilities, were allowed to buy a gift for this siblings and parents.

From winter to coats to some of the newest toys, sheriff's officers helped families pick out gifts. Kane County Sheriff's Police Lodge 14 started the "Shop with a Cop" program in 1989.

Donations from Kane County residents and businesses pay for the program. The officers who take part are thrilled.

The families benefiting from Wednesday night's event were referred by the social service agency and sheriff's deputies. The true spirit of the holiday season is alive and well out in Kane County.
