Smash-and-grab robber strikes Avondale Subway

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Police are investigating a smash-and-grab robbery in Chicago's Avondale neighborhood.

Someone shattered the door of a Subway restaurant in the 3300-block of West Belmont Avenue early Friday morning to steal cash.

Officers responded to a burglar alarm around 4:35 a.m. Police said someone had rummaged through the inside.

It is unclear whether anyone was hurt. No one is in custody.
