WEST DUNDEE, Ill. (WLS) -- A northwest suburban man is facing animal cruelty charged after he allegedly beat his girlfriend's dog to death because it went to the bathroom in her house.

The small dog was beaten to death on Eichler Drive in West Dundee on April 13.

Investigators say Nathan Begovich, last known address in DeKalb, beat the dog to death after it urinated and defecated on the floor of his girlfriend's home. When Begovich's girlfriend attempted to intervene in the beating of the dog, Begovich spit in her face, police said.

A necropsy determined the dog died of blunt force trauma. A warrant for the arrest of Begovich was issued for felony aggravated cruelty to animals, misdemeanor cruelty to animals and misdemeanor domestic battery.

Begovich was taken into custody May 21 by the DeKalb Police Department.

His bond was set at $7,500. Begovich was unable to post bond and was taken to Kane County Jail.
