WOODSTOCK, Ill. (WLS) -- A man was shot and killed in a municipal parking lot in Woodstock Friday morning, police said.

Police responded to reports of gunfire at 1:13 a.m. in a municipal parking lot near the intersection of East Calhoun and South Jefferson streets, police said.

A male victim was located at the scene and transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. Authorities have not released the identity of the victim.

"It's kind of crazy to hear that something like that would happen like that just randomly, out of the blue," Woodstock resident Joey Thoma said.

Police gathered evidence and tracked down video from security cameras in the area. Although authorities have released little information about their ongoing investigation, Woodstock Deputy Mayor Mike Turner wants the public to know that early indications are that the attack was isolated.

"There's not a reason for heightened public risk or concern. That having been said, I understand people would be concerned and the investigation is still going on," Turner said.

The Woodstock Police Department is investigating along with the McHenry County Major Investigations Assistance Team. Anyone with information is asked to contact the McHenry County Major Investigations Assistance Team tip line at 815-363-2201.
