Sky go for 4th in row vs. Wings
Allie Quigley and the Chicago Sky look to keep the WNBA's longest winning streak going when they visit Skylar Diggins-Smith and the Dallas Wings on Sunday afternoon at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.
Although Chicago (6-12) owns the worst record in the Eastern Conference and the second-worst mark in the league, the Sky have won three in a row -- including a home win over Dallas (9-11).
Quigley, the league's 12th-leading scorer averaging 16 points per game, had 22 points to lead Chicago past Dallas 90-84 on Wednesday. Jessica Breland added 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Diggins-Smith, whose 17.9 points per game ranks eighth in the league, paced the Wings with a team-high 20 points and Allisha Gray added 18 in defeat.
Dallas was held to 39.2 percent shooting and allowed Chicago to make 12 of 25 3-pointers. The Wings were done in by a poor third quarter in which they were outscored 32-13.
Quigley was limited to 10 points on 4-of-13 shooting in Friday's game in New York, but that didn't keep the Sky from topping the Liberty 78-68.
Stefanie Dolson led the way with 23 points and Courtney Vandersloot, back from overseas playing commitments, added 13 points and nine assists to keep Chicago's win streak rolling.
"It's big going into this four-game road trip we have," Vandersloot told reporters. "We were running out of time. We were saying we'd put it together and now it seems like we are."
Vandersloot is averaging 16.7 points and 11.3 assists during the team's winning streak.
Chicago's winning streak began with a surprising 100-76 win over the Western Conference powerhouse Minnesota Lynx on July 8, marking the Sky's first home victory of the season.
Dallas has dropped two straight and three of four entering its matchup with Chicago, but is still averaging the fourth-most points in the league at 84.3.
Chicago is fourth-to-last in the league in scoring, averaging 78.7 points.
The three-game season series between the Sky and Wings concludes Aug. 30 at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Ill.
