This week's 4-Star-Chicagoan is a baseball and softball coach who grew up playing the game himself on the South Side of Chicago. LaVonte Stewart founded Lost Boyz Inc. as a way to keep kids active, safe and off the streets.

Lost Boyz's mission is to decrease violence, improve the social and emotional conditions, and provide financial opportunities among the youth in Chicago's South Shore community. With baseball training and competitive participation as core drivers, the mission is achieved through high-intensity mentoring, intervention, and social entrepreneurship activities. The first team of 15 players has now grown to a program featuring six baseball teams serving about 130 boys and girls. They have extended their services to include mentorship opportunities, summer internships, service learning projects, and a youth softball program for girls.
