Person shot on Eisenhower Expressway while changing tire

HILLSIDE, Ill. (WLS) -- A person was shot in the butt while he was changing a tire on the Eisenhower Expressway Sunday night, Illinois State Police said.

Police responded to a reported shooting in the westbound lanes of I-290 at Mannheim Road near Hillside at about 11:08 p.m.

The victim told police he was changing a tire in the right shoulder of the expressway when he felt a sharp pain and realized he was shot in the butt. A female passenger in the car then transported the victim to Elmhurst Hospital.

A 2-year-old child was inside the victim's vehicle at the time of the shooting, police said. No other injuries were reported.

Police closed the westbound lanes of the Eisenhower to investigate the shooting. Lanes reopened at 1:14 a.m., police said.
