CHICAGO (WLS) -- If a couple of Chicago aldermen get their way, you could be fined for using your cell phone while in a crosswalk.

Aldermen Ed Burke and Anthony Beale say the proposed fines range from $90 to $500.

They proposed the ordinance on Wednesday, saying it could cut down on the number of pedestrian deaths and injuries.

Several other states and cities have passed similar laws.
