ABC7's Eyewitness News Salutes Joshua Sylvie, a high school senior Down syndrome who was named homecoming king at Riverside Brookfield High School.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- ABC 7 EyeWitness News Salutes an 18-year-old high school senior from the western suburbs. Joshua Sylvie, who was born with Down syndrome, was recently voted homecoming king for Riverside Brookfield High School. The students and staff members "went wild" when Joshua's name was announced for the court, according to the student newspaper.

"To sum it up, we think Josh's popularity is just a human response to his unconditional love and affection for others," his parents tell ABC7. "Almost everyone knows who Josh is. He simply brightens your day by offering you the most sincere and heartfelt hello."

Along with being homecoming king, Joshua is also a sports enthusiast. His parents say he has outstanding school spirit and attends most of the sporting events. He is also a Special Olympian, having won gold and bronze medals.
