CHICAGO (WLS) -- USA Swimming Foundation and the Chicago Park District teamed up to create a 3D mural to highlight the importance of knowing how to swim.

Olympic Gold medal swimmers Cullen Jones, Jessica Hardy, Conor Dwyer and Rowdy Gaines helped unveil the swimming pool mural at Pioneer Court at 401 North Michigan Avenue on Friday.

Officials said the aim of the mural is to encourage children to take swimming lessons. Knowing how to swim could save their lives, in light of the increasing rate of child drownings, especially among African American youth.

The park district's outdoor pools opened for the season on Friday, despite the weather.

All 49 outdoor pools will remain open through Labor Day. The park district's indoor pools are open year-round.
