CAROL STREAM, Ill. (WLS) -- Chad Nelson, 35, of Elgin died in an explosion late Monday night at a machine manufacturing plant in west suburban Carol Stream, according to police.

Carol Stream police said Nelson had been welding on metal machinery when there was a catastrophic failure.

Emergency crews responded to 590 Tower Boulevard late Monday night. Maac Machinery, a thermoforming machinery manufacturer, is listed at that address.

Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene. Carol Stream police and OSHA are investigating his death and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
